Generator Blog: Flickr Toys: BigHugeLabs

http://www.bighugelabs.com/flickr/

I used the blog Add Image feature to upload this picture.

I took the image from my computer and uploaded it to Generator Blog, where I added a calendar. From there, I right clicked Save Image to desktop, and then with Blog Add Image feature I uploaded the picture to the right. Cute huh?

Now I'm going to try and add a picture using the cut and paste code method. Oops, I can't find the code. Where is the code located? I went back and tried the caption maker. I liked it, but I found I could not manipulate the balloon.

Week 4, Exercise #8 RSS feeds

I am using this blog as a study guide. The information written is to help me learn and not to be a publishable paper.

RSS: "Really Simple Syndication"

New way to share information, news, media and content creators.

Putting everything together on one page, without wadding through stuff already read.

RSS news feeds

1. discovery exercises

Difference between RSS feed readers, Bloglines, and Google Reader.

a. RSS Feed Readers:

A device used to gather & read desired Internet content, that spots a RSS icon, to be read in one place; websites, blogs, nings, wikies, and others I haven't discovered yet.

b. Bloglines:

Two ways of sharing subscriptions: 1) enable sharing-all subscriptions and folders become public, to make them private-edit link-toggle to individual folder & subscriptions private, Blogrolls-list of links to other blogs-bloglines can be added to blog as as a blogroll by including HTML, folder blank-all public subscriptions will be displayed, Link Target field blank, links will load in same window as blogroll. Search feature. Publish-create blog within bloglines-"only place on the web where you'll find blog creation and sharing capabilities fully integrated with blog search and blog reading."

c. Google Reader:

Keep track of favorite websites: stay up to date, simplify reading experience-everything in one spot, discover new content-automatically sends new feeds & searches for content that interests me, Share with my friends, Google Reader public page-recommend articles to friends-sending links, Share with one click- sharing icon-any item-instantly appear on my public page, spice up my site-website & blog-add customized clip-shared items on my site's sidebar, Read anywhere, anytime, Google reader gadget to iGoogle, read on he go-GGoogle reader on mobile phone browser, Use Google reader on any computer-only need online access-subscriptions stay with me.

a. Learn about feeds http://www.blip.tv/file/205570/

This is a video that teaches what a RSS is and how to sign-up. Entertaining, simplified for beginners, informational.

b. Set up own RSS feed

I subscribed to GoogleReader. I was able to use my same user name and password for my gmail account. One less password to remember. I took the tour to discover how it was different/same as RSS blip.tv video.

c. Personalize RSS feed reader

d. Learn the difference between RSS feed readers, Bloglines, and Google Reader.

Differences: RSS feed reader-software device used gather and read Internet sites, etc. see above. Bloglines are public right away and must be edited to make them private. Google Reader is private first and must be edited to make public.

Week 3, Exercise #7 anything technology related

I am using this blog as a learning tool. More for thinking out loud, and helping me to synthesize the new material I am learning.

Blog post about anything technology related.

Two things:

Number 1:

I have an LCD and projection screen for my library, but I do not have a TV with a DVD player. I do have a DVD player on my circulation computer. I often use my LCD hooked up to my circ. computer to show students how to use our OPAC; demonstrating the difference between Keywords and Subject words. At the last AASL conference, I purchased some DVDs.

When I got back to school, I figured I could play the DVDs on my circ. computer through the LCD onto the projection screen for students to see. I couldn't figure out how to get the sound up on my computer so everyone could hear. With a little fiddling and experimenting, I was able to take a set of speakers from one of the OPAC computers and hook them up to the circ. computer. I am now able to show DVDs over the circ. computer for everyone to see. I turn off the lights, and its like a movie theatre, without the popcorn. This week is the last week before Christmas. I am showing Patrica Polacco's Christmas Tapestry.

Number 2:
OpenId
I have read the blogbuz several times about OpenId. I am still trying to figure out what they are talking about. I guess I need more blog experiences in order to comprehend whether to move in that direction. OpenId-everyone can see it and comment on it now? I need to sift this through my mind again. Is that something I even want?

Week 3, Exercise #6 Flickr mashups & 3rd party sites

I need to skip this week and go back to it, when school is out. The filters are interfering.

week 2, exercises #3, #4

I developed a blog. it is located at

http://librarykarenmagic.blogspot.com/

I am going to play around with the elements.

I developed an avatar. I opened a yahoo.com account and selected an avatar. I added our dog, Gwenny. If you are reading this, you have seen it.

It was fun choosing things for it. I would like it to move, but can't figure out how to do that.

#4 I registered my blog with csla after renewing my annual membership.

week 1; #1 & #2

#1 Read the About page

#2 Pointers from lifelong learners:

I reviewed the 7 1/2 things for lifelong learning. They are as follows:

  1. Goal setting

  2. Accept responsibility

  3. View problems as a challenge

  4. Have confidence

  5. Creat own learning toolbox

  6. Use technology to my advantage

  7. Teach/mentor others

And most importantly:

1/2 PLAY

As I was reading the seven and a half things, it occured to me, that many of these things I learned, while I was a Mary Kay Consultant in the early 80's.

  1. Goal setting; set a goal, make a plan, work your plan. Continue to re-evaluate long term, short term goals & objectives.
  2. Accept responsibility for one's own successes.
  3. Don't view challenges and questions as problems. View them as opportunities to learn, re-examine, reorganinze, and re-evaluate.
  4. Fake it till you make it : confidence
  5. Use tools available: best you can afford
  6. Use technology
  7. Teaching and mentoring helps to solidify what has been learned.
